Former Miss Asia Pacific, actor, producer, and activists Dia Mirza has pursued many ventures in her career, but what sets her apart is her long-standing support for social and environmental causes. She proved herself as a sensitive actress, and while her career put her into the spotlight, her philanthropic work makes her more love and heard. 

How Is Dia Playing Her Role In Nation Building? 

Let’s discuss Dia’s involvements and achievements in community services and social activism. 

Dia has been involved with the Spastics Society of India and Cancer Patients Aid Association. Also, she has worked expansively with the government of Andhra Pradesh to spread awareness towards HIV, prevention of female foeticide, CRY, PETA, and very recently with NDTV Greenathon. Dia sits on the board of the Coca-Cola Foundation which works towards development in rural India. 

Along with popular actor Aamir Khan, Dia openly expressed support for the Narmada Bachao Andolan, i.e. a group protesting the building of a dam. Also, she was named the ambassador for the youth-based ‘Swachh Saathi’ program that was a part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. As the ambassador, she interacts with school and college students in the country through awareness sessions, community cleaning activities and motivational videos. The actress joined ‘Save The Children India’ as their first-ever celebrity artist ambassador. As an ambassador, she uses the celebrity advantage to champion the rights of children in India and across the globe.  

She adopted two cheetah cubs at the Prince of Wales zoological park in Lucknow, this indeed is one of the most interesting and kind acts that express her love for animals. Along with this, Mirza has endorsed ‘The Body Shop’ for their stand on the prohibition on animal testing and propagation of natural products and recycled packaging. She is also the Eco-Ambassador for Panasonic. Dia was appointed as brand ambassador for the Wildlife Trust of India on the World Environment Day of 2017. She has extended her support to WTI’s wildlife conservation activities for many years now and continues to contribute as a founder-member of the organization’s Club Nature initiative. 

And the cherry on top, Dia was appointed as UN Environment’s Goodwill Ambassador for India, joining global celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Anne Hathaway, Katy Perry Cate Blanchett, and Emma Watson. United Nations has recognized her contributions to environment conservation. 

Social Activism Is Not Related To Celebrity Fame – Says Dia 

Be it cancer patients, animal welfare, or matters of water conservation, actress Dia Mirza has been in limelight for extending her support for various causes. Participation in social work isn’t a mere by-product of being a celebrity, Dia takes her responsibility towards society very seriously. She says, she would have done her part for the society even if she wasn’t a celebrity.
